First, watch this video:
Recently, in a fit of inspiration, I posted this video on Facebook along with my idea that someday 140.6 would be a good round number. This video of the 2008 Ironman Championships is fairly common amongst triathlon fanvids, but I especially like the song “Infinity” by the Guru Josh Project. I made it part of my running playlists this week. Though I know that the Project’s official video is rather different, when I listen to the words alone, I hear it differently.
Here’s my key philosophy/ A freak like me just needs infinity/Relax…/Take your time/And take your time to trust in [Me]/And you will find [eternity]
Yes, I altered the words according to what I can hear in them. When I posted the video, a friend of mine responded that she thought that watching the athletes work was like looking at art. As an athlete of no where near the caliber of these Ironman champions, I looked for an analogy that was quite the opposite. I responded to her comment with the line, “Well, that means I am like the crayon scribblings of a child.”
Though it is as far apart as I could think of from works of art such as Michaelangelo or Picasso, I hesitated to say it. As a father, no art has pleased me more than the “crayon scribblings” of my children that I proudly displayed upon the walls of my office and the refrigerator door.
This morning’s run was slated to be a 7-mile long run. It was raining as well and I ended up listening to “Infinity” as I ran in the dark; thinking about that earlier post. I realize that is the way that we look to God. When he sees us, it is not as the works of art like the Ironman athletes, but as the “crayon scribblings” of children. He made us to be works of art, perfect, pure, and strong. However, in our attempts to please Him, we often end up not using complicated oils, but just our crayons. We color outside the lines. We scribble all over the place and we mix in colors that may not be classical together. However, our Father is pleased and proud to display our crayon works of art upon His refrigerator. That ought to be something to keep us going and trusting in our faith in Him. Relax. Take your time, today.
