In May of 2006, after almost nine years of going back to college and graduate school, I discovered two things. I like to write and I was fat and out of shape. I still haven’t found an outlet for writing that I like, but I have put in more than a few hours of dealing with the second.
Four years of riding and two years of running later, I have lost some of that weight, improved my health, and become a complete lunatic according to my family. These musings are just part of that saga. They will not all be about running, cycling, or fitness. Sometimes, I am likely to include my own ideas on politics, faith, or whatever allows me the chance to write.
What will you find here? My hope is that you will find resources to help runners, cyclists, duathletes, and triathletes (someday) like myself. At 6 feet and 260 pounds, I am in a division called Clydesdales; those runners over 200 pounds (There is also a division for women runners over 160 pounds, often called Athena or Fillies). After the time I have spent on the bike and on the road, I have learned a few things about my own situation. As time goes on, you should see resource pages appearing here in the areas of methods, training, motivation, books, and gear.
They are resources I have learned to use and wish to share with other athletes my size. Many are common to all runners and cyclists, regardless of size. Others might be unique to Clydesdale runners and cyclists.
What I am running from or running to, I am not certain. However, it’s still the journey I wish to be on.
